Charles (Chuck) Smith
Chuck knew early on in his young adult life that he was destined to serve municipal communities in some capacity, which he did for nearly 40 years before retiring from the Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group in 2014.
Through his years of service he served in various positions in the municipal arena: City Manager for the City of Blackwell; Executive Director of Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma; the first General Manager for the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority; and finally the positions of Director of Plan Services, Director of Member Services and CEO for OMAG.
Chuck is a proud alumnus of the Oklahoma State University and husband to Nancy, the love of his life.
The Chuck Smith Scholarship Award was created in his honor by the Board of Directors of OMAG and provides assistance to municipal officials to attend various trainings during the OML Annual Conference.
Over the years he served on several boards and committees such as the American Public Power Association, Kaw Reservoir Authority, North Central Oklahoma Public Power Pool Authority, Oklahoma Municipal League, Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City & Town Officials Hall of Fame Foundation.
Chuck also pioneered the Circuit Riding City Manager program in Oklahoma, expanded the depth of services of OMAG, served as chairman on the Oklahoma City & Town Officials Hall of Fame Foundation and was a principal participant in the creation of OMPA.
