Mary Sue Overbey
Mary Sue Overbey served the citizens and the City of Sand Springs for over 22 years as the Finance Director/City Clerk.
Mary Sue was recognized by a Resolution of Appreciation from the City of Sand Springs for loyal and faithful service to municipal government, presented June 28, 1999 as well as the 2016 John M. Hess Municipal Award for Outstanding Citizenship from the City of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, for achieving the highest standards of performance in municipal government.
Due to her efforts, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has presented several awards over the years to the City of Sand Springs such as the Silver Certificate, the Gold Certificate and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Finance Reporting; and the Outstanding Achievement for Popular Annual Financial Reporting.
As a member of the Government Finance Officers of the United States and Canada, she was a charter member of the Government Finance Officers Association of Oklahoma and served as president of the same. She was on the Finance Advisory Board of the Oklahoma Municipal League; and served on the Board of Trustees, as secretary of the board and as vice-chairman of the board for the Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group.
Mary Sue assisted in the creation of the Municipal Budget Act of Oklahoma, adopted October 1, 1979. She earned the titles of Certified Municipal Clerk and Certified Municipal Treasurer; was chairperson for the Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Association; and served on the Training Advisory Committee.
Mary Sue currently serves on the Vision 2025 Overview Committee which began in 2002 and contains four (4) Propositions providing public infrastructure projects and incentives for private enterprises throughout Tulsa County. Through an exhaustive selection process, 32 projects were approved at a cost of $885 million.
