Tim Lyon
Tim Lyon became an administrative assistant for the City of Edmond in 1986, a two-year position he held. For the next nine years, he served as a local government specialist for the Center of Local Government Technology at OSU before becoming the deputy director for the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma. His career choice then moved him to the City of Midwest City in 2000 when he was hired as the Human Resources Director. In April of 2007, he became the Assistant City Manager for Midwest City and in June of 2019, Tim was promoted to City Manager, a position he currently holds.
Lyon received the Accredited Manager Award in 2016 from the City Managers Association of Oklahoma. Additional awards Tim has earned include the Honorary Crew Member COMMSTAR Team Class of 2009 presented by Tinker Air Force Base; 2015 Zach D. Taylor Jr. Clean Cities Vision Award given by Central Oklahoma Clean Cities Coalition; ML King Jr Special Recognition presented by the M.L. King Jr. Prayer Breakfast Committee for his leadership and heart for his community; the 2023 Delta Hotel Award given by Marriott; and a National Achievement Award presented by the Public Risk Insurance Management Association.
In addition, Tim serves as a board member, trustee or a member of the following organizations: Tinker Air Force Base Partnership Steering Committee, Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group, State Insurance, Oklahoma Municipal Natural Gas Coalition, International City Managers Association, City Managers Association of Oklahoma, Association of Defense Communities, International Council of Shopping Centers, Oklahoma Clean Cities Coalition, and the Midwest City Economic Development Advisory Committee.
Tim’s community involvement includes being a scout leader for Boy Scouts of America; he’s a life member of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association; a past member of the Kiwanis; and has served as an employment specialist for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Tim’s contributions led Midwest City to be honored as a Governor’s Disability Employment Winner, as well as the 2013 National Installation of the Year – Tinker Air Force Base, an award bestowed by the Association of Defense Communities.
Tim has provided training and leadership for county and municipal governments for almost four decades. His leadership, work and personal ethics have made his organizations function at a higher level and has been recognized locally by citizens directly impacted by Tim’s leadership and work, as well as nationally by professional organizations. Tim’s leadership and work have provided opportunities for individuals and local government organizations statewide to improve how they provide services to their citizens.
