Patty J Dixon
Patty Dixon has served in various capacities that have benefitted the community of Sand Springs since she became a member of Oklahoma Recreation and Park Society in 1973 and was the Student Editor for the ORPS magazine. As an ORPS member, she has served as Secretary, Municipal Vice President, Recreation Vice President, and President and is an active Lifetime Member, even in retirement.
Dixon also served in many capacities of local government for the City of Sand Springs City Council and Municipal Authority Trust from 1990 forward such as councilor, vice-mayor, trustee, vice-chairman, in addition to her service on many city appointed committees.
In 2022 she received the Mayoral Proclamation City of Sand Springs, Oklahoma which recognizes the recipient's years of service on the Sand Springs City Council and the Sand Springs Municipal Authority Trust. And in 2014 Dixon received the Sand Springs Hometown Hero Award for the City of Sand Springs, which was announced and recognized at the annual Sand Springs Herbal Affair and Festival. The recipient of this award is a citizen of Sand Springs that has made positive contributions within the community over a substantial period of time.
In 2023 she was inducted into the Sand Springs Education Foundation Hall of Fame; and in 2019 she was named Inaugural Woman of the Year by the Oklahoma Municipal League for her work and contributions to her community.
Dixon formed a committee to study and propose a recycling center for the Sand Springs community, working with the Metropolitan Environmental Trust (M.e.t.), the Sand Springs to open a recycling center in 1993. She was serving on the Sand Springs City Council when Sand Springs and Sapulpa began a joint venture to construct the Skiatook Raw Water Conveyance System (SRWCS) to draw water from Skiatook Lake to each respective city. The SR WCS is the largest expenditure to date approved by Council.
Dixon enjoys spending time with family and friends and is very active in her church. She is also active in his community through the Oklahoma Alliance of Art Educators; Oklahoma Community Theatre Association; Sand Springs Museum Association; Sertoma, Inc.; and Sand Springs Park Friends, Inc.
