Michael Duane Brown

Acceptance Speech

Elected first as a Weatherford City Commissioner in April 1996, and then as Mayor in January 2004 of this strong mayor form of government community, he is now the longest-serving mayor in the history of Weatherford.  In addition, he is the only sitting Oklahoma Municipal League President to be inducted into this hall of fame.

Mike has been quite active in leadership for the Southwestern Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) and OML.  Furthermore, he is credited by many as being a driving force behind numerous innovative organizational and financial intergovernmental initiatives uniting the city, public schools, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, the regional hospital, and Custer County for the mutual benefit of their shared constituencies.

A graduate of SWOSU, Mike is the owner of the American Insurance Group, an independent life and health insurance agency in Weatherford.  In 2010 the Mayor’s Council of Oklahoma (MCO) honored him with the Mayor of the Year Award.  Since 2010, appointed by the Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, he has served on the Statewide Nine-One-One Advisory Board representing OML.
