Homer Lee Nicholson
As the longest-serving Mayor of Ponca City he is involved in many roles at the state and national levels that affect local governments in Oklahoma and across the country. Among these is his service on the Oklahoma Homeland Security Advisory Council and the Oklahoma Pipeline Safety Task Force; and previously on the Governor’s Task Force on Collection, Distribution & Enforcement of Municipal Sales Tax and the Governor’s Council on Workforce and Economic Development.
In addition to his private business activities, he is currently the designated representative for cities and towns on the Oklahoma Environmental Quality Board. Homer is only the second sitting member of this Hall of Fame Foundation selected for induction.
He is a retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major E-9 and also retired after 38 years with Conoco Oil Company in Ponca City. He has been a recipient of the Marvin Hicks - Al Middleton Meritorious Services Award from the Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma and was named 2012 Mayor of the Year for Cities over 5,000 by the Mayor’s Council of Oklahoma. He serves on the Oklahoma Municipal Utility Providers Steering Committee and the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority. Nationally he serves as Oklahoma's representative on the American Public Power Association (APPA) Policy Makers Council.
